december challenge | day 11
2021-12-12 11:37 pmFor this prompt I was actually inspired by a drama! A guy, director of a company, was explaining how he got married because he had to and so I paused the drama and wrote this lol.
DAY 11: "What's the meaning of this?"
jihoon/mingyu, chaebol!mingyu, angst
“You are married?” Jihoon says louder than he should, attracting some glances from the passersby. The middle of a busy street shouldn’t be a place for this conversation, so Mingyu tries to calm him down.
“Can we talk about it somewhere else?” he pleads, trying to make his best impression of Puss in Boots from Shrek, but Jihoon is furious and definitely not impressed.
“There is nothing to talk about.” The man attempts to walk away, but Mingyu grips his wrist firmly.
“Please, don’t, it’s not like you think,” he begs.
“Not like I think? What else is there? You thought I’d be fine with you cheating on your wife with me?”
He tries to get his hand out of Mingyu’s grip, but he only strengthens it.
“Let me explain.”
“There’s nothing to explain!” Jihoon tugs his hand again.
“My wife knows!”
Jihoon stops moving, his stare cold.
“What’s the meaning of this? Is this some kind of a joke? A… kink of some sort?”
“Please, hyung,” he begs again, tears burning in his eyes, cheeks hot. Mingyu is desperate for his boyfriend to stay. “I know, I should have told you sooner. But could you please stop making assumptions and let me explain?”
There’s irritation on Jihoon’s face, but Mingyu can tell he’s hurt. And that he is the one who hurt him, which is even more heartbreaking.
“You have thirty seconds,” Jihoon says. Mingyu takes a deep breath and plans on using this time as well as he can.
“My family’s company needed the support from another one. I know it sounds stupid, but chaebols really do work like this, to tighten the relations between the companies they asked me to marry the girl from that family. And I was twenty, and couldn’t say no to my father, and the girl was nice so it happened. But- we are friends,” he puts an emphasis on that word, eyes looking straight into Jihoon’s, “and that’s it. We did agree to let each other date whoever we want. We are both gay, hyung. Please don’t misunderstand.”
Jihoon is visibly battling with his thoughts. When he speaks up, it’s more quiet, and he doesn’t look at Mingyu.
“You could have told me at the beginning.”
“It slipped my mind.”
“It slipped your mind? The fact that you’re married?”
“I’m so sorry Jihoon, I really meant to tell you, but there was never a good moment, and I just… I have no excuse. If you want to hate me for that, then please, but don’t think I’m using you to cheat on someone. Damn, I can even arrange a double date for us and her and her girlfriend!”
Jihoon sighs and tugs one more time, and this time Mingyu lets his hand go.
“I… need some time to think that through,” Jihoon finally says. “I think we should part our ways here today.”
“Okay,” Mingyu nods. “If you want to talk… just know I’m available whenever.”
Jihoon doesn’t answer, simply turns around and leaves. Mingyu stays in place to look at his back, until he’s completely out of sight.
